The Southern Oregon men and women’s cross country team easily grabbed the team titles on Friday at the Mike Hodges Invitational.

Both the men and women won the titles by recording 24 points and simply dominated their opponents including NCAA Division I Seattle University and NCAA Division II Western Oregon.

While the No. 1 ranked men’s team was expected to blow the competition away, the recently ranked No. 13 women’s team showed they are a force to be reckoned with this year.

Six of the top ten places were filled by Southern Oregon athletes as sophomore Seena Frantz led the way with a third overall finish and a time of 18:16.

The other runners to place in the top 10 were Anya Martinez, Summer Cano, Laurie Stoutenburgh, Tara Krempley and Kristen Juveland.

“It was a special day for the girls,” said head coach Brent Ericksen. “They dominated the race. They went out and ran aggressive and it was fun to watch.”

For the men, David Laney  grabbed the individual title finishing with a time of 19:31.  Teammates Zach Elliot, James Johnstone, Ryan Sorenson, Josh Seitz, Dennis McCaffrey and Ryan Ghelfi finished within the top 15.
