Dramatic Weekend for Raiders on the Road

Even though it was a quiet week for sports on our own home turf, the mighty Raiders shook the stands everywhere they visited this weekend.

The SOU Volleyball team took another win Saturday as they shut down Northwest Christian University 3-0 in Eugene. Motade Atanda with 14 kills and Paulla Pinheiro with 13 kills combined to lead the team to victory. The team is currently ranked 10th with a 17-3 record overall.

The Raider’s fell to 7th place in NAIA rankings with their dramatic 42-40 loss to Carroll College Saturday in Helena, Montana. The final play that ended the game for SOU saw the Raiders’ unsuccessful attempt at a two-point conversion with just 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter. With 1,026 combined yards of offense, quarterback Austin Dodge and the offense gave it their all bringing the Raiders up from a 27-42 deficit, but even with an flawless on-side kick exacted by Alex Nelson, and 27 fourth quarter points, the Raiders still left Montana with their now 6-1 record.

The SOU Women’s soccer team’s chance of entering this year’s playoffs was jeopardized with a 2-1 loss to Warner Pacific College Saturday. Despite being ahead 1-0 for much of the game, Warner Pacific’s Presley Lambert tied the game up with a goal in the 64th minute. Staci Tatum’s game-winning goal came only minutes later. SOU has one more chance to make it into the playoffs if they can reign victorious over Oregon Tech next Saturday, securing them a spot in the top-six.
