SOU Women’s Soccer splits opening pair

This past weekend saw the Southern Oregon women’s soccer team split their two opening conference matches with a win against Northwest University and a loss to Corban.

The win and loss leaves the Raiders with a 1-1 record in conference play and 7-3-2 overall.

On Friday, the Raiders easily defeated Northwest University with a 4-0 victory.

Forwards Denise Powell, Alexis Mahoney, Sydney Paulsen, and Midfielder Maddy Scott all got on the board for the Raiders.

However despite the dominating scoreline, the Raiders started the match flustered and took some time to settle down.

“We were a little scattered in the beginning, a little over anxious,” head coach Jon Clement said. “Once we settled down we started to have good possessions and began to take advantage of those possessions.”

On Saturday, the Raiders were not able to build upon their encouraging start to the conference and eventually fell to Corban 1-0 following double overtime.

Next up for the Raiders is a conference match up on the road against Oregon Tech this coming Saturday.
