Southern Oregon Arts and Research is looking for student and faculty applicants to showcase the work they have accomplished at SOU through a week-long conference in May. The conference, more commonly referred to as SOAR, will take place from May 12-16 on the SOU campus. The deadline to apply for SOAR is Friday, April 18.
SOAR is based upon bringing artists, researchers, creators and innovators from all disciplines together to display the work students have done in the areas of research, performance and art.
“We’re trying to push students to showcase all of their accomplishments they’ve achieved at SOU,” said Paul Adalian, SOU Library Dean.
Events during SOAR include faculty panels, poster sessions, lab and studio open houses, a student film festival, theatrical performances, musical performances, and a club street fair, among others. There will also be a “Buffet Bash” reception for those presenting on the first day of the conference.
In a video created to promote last year’s SOAR conference, Adalian described SOAR as “a science fair on steroids.”
Adalian encourages students to apply for SOAR not only to display their work, but to also get used to presenting as professionals.
“One big advantage to apply is that students get the experience to present in a conference setting,” said Adalian. He suggests that this will be particularly helpful for students who are looking to go onto graduate school.
To apply for SOAR please visit the conference’s website and go to the “Application & Process” tab. The application is relatively simple, and upon submitting the applicant should receive an applicant ID number and conformation email. If this email is not received, it is suggested that the applicant contact the SOAR hotline at the email or phone number listed below. It is suggested that students use either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome to fill out and submit the application.
Admission is free and free parking will be available across different parts of campus.
Those needing the SOAR hotline or who are interested in more information can contact soar@sou.edu or call 541-552-6816.
