MISSISSIPPI–A controversial plan for a new specialty license plate in Mississippi is drawing concerns from the African-American population, among others.

The plate, proposed by The Sons of Confederate Veterans pays tribute to Lt. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, a General in the confederate army during the American Civil War.

Opposition to the plate is stemmed from the fact that Forrest helped to start and expand the Ku Klux Klan after the war, and the government is questioning the appropriateness of the plate.

A Facebook group opposing the plates, which would be available in 2014, has already brought together more than 1400 people against the idea.

Mississippi currently has more than 150 specialty license plates available.
