Southern Oregon University students were treated to a rare sighting of a 30-foot long species of turtle in the courtyard of the Stevenson Union on Tuesday.
The only catch: it was inflatable.
The SOU chapter of the Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group was out in force Tuesday, campaigning against the use of plastic bags and urging students to reduce their plastic pollution. Students could have their pictures taken with the turtle, and several speakers presented at the event, including Dave Mathews from environmental advocacy group Environment Oregon. OSPIRG also handed out 150 canvas bags to event participants.
