Roughly 6,300 news jobs were gained in Oregon during January, reducing the state’s unemployment rate from 10.6 percent to 10.4 percent.
This is the lowest unemployment rate the state has seen in 24 months, according to the Oregon Employment Department’s monthly report, released last week. The 6,300 jobs are a seasonally adjusted rate, meaning that this many jobs were not necessarily added, but that employers cut 6,300 less jobs than was initially anticipated by economists.
At any rate, more than 218,000 Oregonians are considered officially unemployed, while many more are considered underemployed or jobless.
