An Ashland city council study session last Tuesday discussed the possibility of transferring the ski area permit from the city to the Mount Ashland Association, the non-profit that operates the ski area.
Mount Ashland officials believe that if the Mount Ashland Association has direct control over the ski area permit, potential donors might be more willing to fund a proposed expansion of ski terrain. The expansion will be considered by approval as early as April, pending new environmental studies by the U.S. Forest Service.
Ashland city councilors said they were willing to move forward with talks about transferring the permit, but could not vote on anything during last week’s study session.
