Ashalnd, Ore. – The Southern Oregon University volleyball team closed their last weekend of regular season home matches with two wins sweeping Evergreen State Friday night and defeating Northwest in four sets on Saturday at Bob Riehm Arena.
Before the start of Friday’s match, the team took time to recognize the four graduating seniors to celebrate their careers at SOU along with their families
The four seniors include setter Caryn Westrick, outside hitter Natalie Scheller, setter Angela Spieker and outside hitter Haley Kasler.
Friday night’s game was a quick one as the Raiders won the first set over Evergreen 25-12, the second set 25-16 and finished them off in the third with another 25-16 victory.
SOU finished the night hitting .356 with only nine attack errors. Kasler led the team with 11 kills on the night while Westrick totaled 21 assists with Spieker adding 15 of her own.
In Saturday’s match, the Raiders took an early two set lead but fell to Northwest Christian in the third set before finally taking the win in the fourth set to finish the regular season 14-2 at home.
SOU won the first set 25-17, second set 25-18, lost the third set 20-25, and won the match 25-18 in the fourth set.
Scheller led the Raiders in the second game against Northwest with 16 kills with a .355 attack percentage on the night. Kasler added another 14 kills while junior libero Renee Yomtob totaled 35 digs averaging just under nine digs a set.
Southern Oregon improves to 18-8 overall and 14-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Raiders look to make a run at the conference championship as they prepare to go on the road to take on College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon to end the 2012 regular season.
