Women’s Soccer slips past Owls

Coming off a tough double-overtime loss to Corban, the Southern Oregon women’s soccer team was determined not to fall in overtime once more as they managed to defeat Oregon Tech 4-3 this weekend.

The Raiders now hold a 2-1 record in conference play and 8-3-1 overall.  Oregon Tech is also 2-1 in the conference, but hold a 7-4 overall record.

Southern Oregon wasted no time getting on the scoresheet as midfielder Stephanie Carr drew the first blood with a screaming 20 yard shot just under a minute into the game.

The Raiders then doubled their lead through forward Sydney Paulsen who managed to tap in a loose ball a few minutes before the end of the first half.

However, the second half saw the Owls rally for three goals to stun the Raiders who only just managed to tie the game near the 70th minute through Alyssa Bricker’s 30 yard effort.

As the game entered overtime, it seemed like deja-vu for the Raiders until Kennedy Roteman was able to put her team at ease by finishing off Danielle Stave’s perfectly placed cross.

Southern Oregon was paced in attack by Paulsen’s five shots while goalkeeper Jessica Kuehlwein recorded six saves for the day.

The Raiders will hit the road for their next two conference matches against Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho this coming weekend.
