Volleyball extends winning streak to six

The Southern Oregon volleyball team posted some enormous statistics to extend their winning streak in conference play to six, following two three-set sweeps this weekend over Corban and Northwest Christian.

Southern Oregon overcame Corban 25-16, 25-15, 31-29 before moving on to Northwest Christian to score a dominating 25-6, 25-13, 25-18 over the Beacons.

The wins ensured that the Raiders clinched a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament as they improved to 15-1 in conference play and 18-3 overall.

In the first match against Corban, the Raiders cruised to a two set lead but had difficulty putting the match away in the third set.

Outside hitter Sarah Holgen led the Southern Oregon offensive by recording 20 kills as well as 12 digs for the night.  Leah Bergstrom also provided the Raiders with 12 kills while also contributing eight blocks.

Setter Lindsey Stone made her contribution offensively with a match-high 39 assists while Libero Becky Johnstone paced the defense with 18 digs.

Against Northwest Christian, Southern Oregon made sure the game ended quickly as the Raiders completed a clean sweep against the Beacons.

Stone was the Raiders’ main force to be reckoned with as she grabbed another match-high 33 assists along with 14 digs and five blocks.

Holgen paced Southern Oregon once again in kills recording 13 while Bergstrom came just behind with 10.

Johnstone led the Raiders in digs while Natalie Scheller recorded 11 digs and Leanne Stennett finished with 10.

Megan Bartling completed Southern Oregon’s defensive display with seven blocks for the night.

Southern Oregon now returns home for their final two games of the regular season against Evergreen State on Friday followed by Northwest on Saturday.

The Raiders are fighting for the top spot in the conference as they are still tied with College of Idaho at the top of the standings. Southern Oregon is only in first courtesy of having dropped fewer sets than the Coyotes.
