Black Squad Wins Intrasquad Challenge

The Black squad emerged victorious during the annual Black and Red Intrasquad tournament held this Wednesday in the McNeal Pavilion.

All-Americans Tommie Hooper and Kyle Wirkuty were the standouts for the Black squad.

With the Black squad leading 10-3, Wirkuty recorded a 20-4 technical fall victory over Alex Howell in the 149-pound division. Later, Hooper managed to record a pin over Dalton Urrutia to leave the Black squad up 24-6.

Justin Mills also helped the Black squad with the 9-0 victory over Tucker Van Matre in one of the 165-pound matches.

For the Red squad, Nick Van Matre scored a major decision victory in the other 165-pound match while Robert Ross managed a pin in the heavyweight match.

The Southern Oregon wrestling team’s next home match will be against Great Falls on November 12 at 7 p.m. in the McNeal Pavilion.
