After five years at the helm of the Southern Oregon football team, head coach Steve Helminiak will not be returning for the 2011 season.
The announcement was made yesterday by Southern Oregon University Athletic Director Matt Sayre and the Raiders will now be looking for a new replacement to be named sometime before January.
In his five seasons with the Raiders, Helminiak posted a 15-32 overall record including this season’s 3-7 finish.
The decision to not retain Helminiak comes on the back of Southern Oregon’s recent bid to participate in the Frontier Conference and Sayre is looking for the Raiders to excel.
“We are committed to making this program one of the best in the NAIA and are committed to finding the right coach to help us achieve that,†Sayre said.
Southern Oregon should find out whether or not they have been accepted into the Frontier Conference in early December.
