Garrad Claims 400 Victory at Sac State

Southern Oregon freshman Mikayla Garrard’s victory in the 400 meter highlighted Southern Oregon’s day at a weather-shortened Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State.

Garrard ran a collegiate career best 58.50 to edge NCAA Division I and Sacramento State star Brianna Nelson (58.54) for the victory.

The Raiders also got some impressive performances in the throws events.

Michael Ruppert finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 44-08.25. Max Perry finished sixth in the hammer with a heave of 168-08.

Also for the men, Sullivan Stevens and Dennis Olstedt finished fourth and fifth in the 110 hurdles. Stevens finished in 15.11 and Olstedt finished in 15.19.

For the SOU women, Denali Cox finished ninth in the 100 in 12.82.

 

Johnson Leads Raiders in San Francisco

James Johnstone turned in an NAIA “A” Standard Qualifying mark to lead Southern Oregon at today’s San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

Johnstone won the 3,000 Steeplechase with a time of 9:11.31. The time is a personal best for Johnstone and the third fastest time in school history in the steeplechase.

Teammate Dennis McCaffrey finished fifth in the event, turning in a time of 9:22.41, which is good for a “B” qualifying time and now ranks as the fifth fastest time in school history.

In the women’s steeplechase, Tara Krempley finished 12th in a time of 11:29.82. The time gives Krempley a “B” qualifying mark.

Sophomore Seena Frantz also secured a “B” qualifying time in the 5,000, finishing in 17:49.80.

In the men’s 5,000, Zach Elliott and Ryan Sorenson each earned “B” qualifying times. Elliott finished 17th in 14:51.31 and Sorenson finished 19th in 14:54.82.

Freshman Mikayla Garrard turned in a pair of top 10 finishes today. Garrard finished third in the 200 with a time of 26.06 and finished sixth in the 100 in 13.06.
