Annual Spring Game Sees Black Team Take Win

Southern Oregon Football Team Shows Strong Defense and Offense in Annual Spring Game

In the annual Southern Oregon Spring Football game, the Black squad managed to score two third quarter touchdowns on their way to securing a 21-to-16 victory on Friday.

In the first half, the White squad were the first side to put up points thanks to a 22-yard field goal from senior Tyler Crowley.

The Black squad then kickstarted their scoring spree when Will Amaya managed to nab a halfback from Manny Barrigan as he recorded an 87-yard touchdown.

Josh McOmber came up with a solid block enabling Amaya to run for the score and giving the Black squad a 7-to-3 lead at the half.

It was in the second half of the game that both squads started to find their rhythm with the Black squad jumping to a touchdown lead shortly after the second half courtesy of Dylan Carlson’s nine-yard run.

The Black squad found themselves on the scoreboard for a second time after AJ Palazzolo’s 65-yard pass found Jarod Hill in the endzone to put them up 21-to-3 over the White squad.

The White squad was only able to get points on the board through a late third quarter four-yard pass to Manny Barrigan from Chris Kammel.

In the fourth quarter, the White squad attempted to claw their way back into the game when Paul Sweeney connected with Skyler Reagan over two plays in order to record a touchdown and bring the scores to 21-to-16.

Sweeney and Reagan first linked up for a 36 yard pass before nabbing the score with a 19 yard touchdown with about four and a half minutes left on the clock.

The White squad then had a chance to go ahead but the Black squad wsd saved by Brandon Grissom’s interception with a minute left in order to end the day with a victory.

Several Raiders impressed on the day with Kammel finishing the game having complete 10 of 14 passes for a total of 113 yards.

Counter part Sweeney also had solid numbers putting up 8 for 11 passes and 145 yards.

Other quarterbacks Palazzolo and Matt Atkins completed 4 of 8 and 6 of 12. respectively.

Overall, there were ten different Raiders who managed to catch passes while Reagan was the group leader with six balls caught for a total of 125 yards.

On defense, the White team saw Nate Svedin record two sacks to lead the Raiders.

The 2011 season opener for Southern Oregon is set for August 27 when the Raiders will travel to face off against Montana Tech.
