Second Half Hat-Trick Propels Club Soccer To Their First Win

Despite having just two practices under their belt, the SOU Men’s Club Soccer team recorded their first victory of the season, beating Central Oregon Community College 5-2 in their opening game Saturday.

COCC scored in the 3rd minute to take an early lead before Senior midfielder Matt Eck equalized just one minute later on a pass from Freshman forward Jamal Abdoul.

The teams went into the half level but SOU quickly regained their advantage when Abdoul scored on a breakaway after a nice pass from Senior defender Makoto Shimanuki.

COCC equalized on a questionable penalty kick call but Sophomore forward Sean Dourghtey was there to rescue the Raiders, scoring three goals in less than 20 minutes to ensure the victory.

Dourghtey chipped the COCC keeper on a nice one touch after a muffed clearance in the box, then capitalized on a goalkeeping mistake to score his second of the night before one timing his third goal of the night on an Abdoul cross.

The Raider’s defense was led by Junior Captain William Wyman, “It was a good first win but we still have a lot to work on,” said Wyman.

The Raiders travel to Portland this weekend to play Portland State University and University of Portland.
