Medford is now home to Buttercloud Bakery and Café, a small artisan bakery and café that had its official grand opening Friday.
Their doors are open every day of the week until 3 p.m., although that may be subject to change after the owners gain a better feel for their customers. The new establishment specializes in biscuits, pies, sticky buns and “other downright delicious baked goods,” according to their website.
According to Ellen Holub, part owner along with her husband Gibson Holub, the bakery’s specialty delight is the Buttercloud Buttermilk Biscuit, which can be served with locally made honey. The biscuits can be built into an array of sandwiches, including the Chipotle Porter Pulled Pork and Rogue Scramble.
Their menu also includes an array of muffins, daily scones, cookies and pies. As of now they do not have gluten-free baked goods, but are not against having them in the future.
For the over 21 crowd they also have a selection of local wine and draft beer.
Holub claims to be a life long baker. Bringing their passion for food, Holub and her husband moved to the valley from Seattle, Wash., after deciding that smaller cities were more to their taste.
“We’re possibly looking to hire after we evaluate in a month,” said Holub, saying that they’ve already received many resumes after an amazing grand opening with a great turn out. They are also considering creating student discounts for those students lucky enough to have a car or have a class at the Medford campus.
