SOU Women Fall to College of Idaho 55-47

Southern Oregon forward Kiara Moore had a season high point total, but it was not enough as Southern Oregon suffered a 55-47 Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball setback to College of Idaho Friday night at Bob Riehm Arena.

The sophomore forward scored 13 and grabbed seven rebounds for the Raiders.

Southern Oregon falls to 12-9 overall and 3-7 in conference play and returns to Bob Riehm Arena tomorrow night to face conference opponent Eastern Oregon. College of Idaho improves to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the CCC and returns to action tomorrow night at Oregon Tech.

Moore’s 13 points led Southern Oregon, while Nalani Hernandez finished 5-of-9 for 10 points.

College of Idaho was led by guard Felicity Jones, who put up 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while Tina Fakahafua had nine points and Kylie Hardison hit 4-of-7 for 10 points.

Southern Oregon came out with a quick lead early in the game going on a 7-2 run, but College of Idaho battled back to tie the game late in the first half.

Both teams had trouble from the field, with Southern Oregon shooting only 36 percent while College of Idaho shot a terrible 26 percent from the field allowing Southern Oregon to keep the lead 21-19 heading into halftime.

College of Idaho used a crucial 10-0 run with 14 minutes left in the game to gain a double-digit lead over the Raiders.

With the offensive production of Moore and RaTanya Newsome, SOU battled back to bring the game within one basket despite shooting only 34 percent from the field with 5:47 left in the game.

With College of Idaho improving their shooting to 51 percent in the second half, SOU was unable to get any closer after a string of misses allowed College of Idaho to take an eight point lead to end the game.
