Southern Oregon closed out the first day at the Tucson Invitational with a 1-2 mark, knocking off Cornerstone 7-2 before falling to No. 15 Olivet Nazarene 4-3 and 12-0 on Friday.
Southern Oregon falls to 7-6 overall this season and will play three games on Saturday, taking on Calumet College of St. Joseph at 11 a.m. local time, followed by games against Trinity International at 3:30 p.m. and Aquinas at 6 p.m. Stats were not made available by the tournament hosts.
Southern Oregon 7, Cornerstone 2
Southern Oregon scored seven runs on eight hits and Karlie Stephens limited Cornerstone to two runs on six hits to pick up the complete-game victory.
Kara Kelsey led the Raiders with a pair of hits as SOU scored a run in the second inning, added three in the third, one more in the fifth and two in the sixth. Sierra Anderson hit a home run for SOU.
No. 15 Olivet Nazarene 4, Southern Oregon 3 (8 innings)
The Raiders led 1-0 for most of the game before Olivet Nazarene tied it up in the top of the seventh and scored three runs in the top of the eighth to earn the 4-3 victory.Jordyn Kurtz took the complete-game loss, giving up four runs on five hits.
Stephanie Vandenbusch led SOU with a home run and a double and Kurtz added a pair of hits, while Molly Anderson hit a home run and drove in two runs on two hits for Olivet Nazarene.
No. 15 Olivet Nazarene 12, Southern Oregon 0
Olivet Nazarene scored four runs in the third inning and added eight more in the bottom of the fourth to earn the five-inning no-hit victory. Caitlin Santefort pitched the no-hitter for Olivet Nazarene, striking out six with no walks as SOU’s lone base-runner reached on an ONU error.
Three Olivet Nazarene players finished with multiple hits, led by Jordan Reynolds’ three hits, including a double and a home run.
