Although Ashland is known for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, many people don’t know all the Festival has to offer.
In addition to its 11-show season, backstage tours, discussions with the actors, special matinees for school groups, and the Green Show, OSF also offers discounted tickets for young adults for select performances through the 19-35 Club.
“The purpose of the program is to make OSF available for young adult audiences, so they can see all the works on the stages for a reasonable price without waiting until the last minute,” said Robert Hackett, marketing manager for the festival.
The 5-year-old program allows anyone between the ages of nineteen and thirty-five to register online to receive weekly emails updating patrons on the discounted shows for the coming week and purchase the discounted tickets online.
Each ticket purchased online through the program is only $25, and seats can be bought in any section in any of the three theatres, except for box seats in the outdoor Elizabethan Stage.
“This gives people more of an opportunity to attend and enjoy performances,” said Southern Oregon University junior Sean Monaghan. “Everyone should have the same opportunity and enjoy the experience.”
Although the program is publicized on the OSF website and to student groups visiting the festival, not many students have discovered on their own, or heard about it from members of the program.
“It isn’t really publicized to the regular student population, it seems the only ones who really know about it are theatre majors,” stated junior theatre major Alyssa Birrer.
“It’s a great opportunity if you find the time,” she added.
