Dining out in the heart of Southern Oregon: the Siskiyou’s definitive gastro-guide to Ashland

Headed out but don’t know where to eat? With all the choices in Ashland it can be hard to make up one’s mind. Here are a few options to get you started:

Greenleaf Restaurant at 49 N. Main Street is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. This is the place to go if you’re indecisive or with a bunch of picky eaters, the diverse food and beverage menu is sure to please everyone. Don’t feel like eating inside? They have seating by Ashland Creek, or you can order to go, walk across the street and have picnic at Lithia Park. They also offer catering services to small and large groups.

Amuse Restaurant, at 15 N. First Street, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you’ve got a date you want to impress, take them here. Starting in November they will have “Three Course Thursday,” a three-course meal for around $38.

Larks Restaurant, at 212 E. Main Street, is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner seven days a week from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. (open until 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays). They also offer brunch on the weekends, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Larks definitely fits into the haute-cuisine category, featuring an outstanding variety of locally produced products in their dishes. Lunch will usually run you $12-$18, dinner around $30 or so.

Taj Indian Cuisine, at 31 Water Street, is open all week for dinner from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and offers a lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner prices averaged around $12 with desserts, wines, appetizers and more. Dining outside is popular during the summer months, and this restaurant has a great deck next to the creek.

Thai Pepper, at 84 N. Main Street, has a beautiful deck above the creek for outside dining when weather allows. Dinner is served seven days a week 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (open until 9:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays) and serving lunch 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bar is open until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight Friday and Saturday.

Agave, at 92 N. Main Street, is where “Art Meets Food.” Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and until 8 p.m. on Sunday. Agave specializes in tacos and tamales, everything from your traditional carne asada to winter squash and portabella mushrooms. An average item on the menu runs about $4-$8, but it’s hard to just eat one.

Munchies, at 59 N. Main Street, is a restaurant and bakery underneath the Ashland Plaza that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Munchies is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Munchies offers a variety of meals in a unique, brick-lined setting, and offers desserts that would get the better of even the biggest sweet tooth in the family. One the kids are sure to love is the Dirt Cup: chocolate pudding, Oreo crumbs, and gummy worms.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth then head over to Mix Sweet Shop, at 57 N. Main Street. Open Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday open till 9:30 p.m. They have coffee, delicious house-made pastries and free WiFi, what more do you need?

Hana Sushi, at 29 N. Main Street, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and until midnight Friday and Saturday. Average meal price is around $11, and worth every cent.

If you’re looking for natural and organic, check out Grilla Bites at 47 N. Main Street. They are open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (open until 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays), and from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. If you’re out in town shopping around and want a healthy snack this is the place to go.

Sesame Asian Kitchen, at 21 Winburn Way, is right across the street from Lithia Park so you can get your food to go and eat it by the duck ponds. They are open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. An average meal costs about $12-$18, depending on your tastes.

If you’re going to see a play you can stop by Martino’s Bar and Macaroni’s Ristorante right next to the theater to grab a drink and bite to eat. Located at 58 E. Main Street, they serve lunch 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and dinner 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. An average meal will run you about $14.

Martolli’s, at 38 E. Main Street, serves hand-tossed pizza by the slice Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday till 10 p.m. They offer a meal deal with pizza, salad and drink every day for $6.95.
