Veterans day reception honors vets, talks about the meaning of sacrifice

The Commuter Resource Center and the Veterans Resource Office are teaming up to honor veterans in the community by hosting a Veterans Day Reception Thursday, Nov. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Rogue River Room of the Stevenson Union at Southern Oregon University.

The event will feature some words of welcome by Danielle Mancuso, assistant director for Student Life and Involvement, an opening prayer by David West, director of Native American Studies, an address from Jennifer Fountain, director of Student Life, and guest speaker Mark Treglia, a 22-year Navy veteran and full-time student at SOU.

According to Treglia, his speech will present a very important message concerning sacrifice.

“I really want people to better understand the meaning of sacrifice from a vet’s
perspective,” said Treglia.

The reception will be informative to students thinking of joining the service as well as those present just to show their support of veterans. Everyone is welcome to take part.

“I think it’s a day that should be celebrated, and it only benefits students to come and learn about vets,” said Treglia. “Though we’re different, we’re very much the same.”

The event will feature a complementary Italian buffet beginning at 11 a.m., with the program starting at 12 p.m.
