A Message from President Roy Saigo: “Safety is my number one priority.”

Dear SOU Community:
Today’s tragic events at Umpqua Community College affect me not only as a university president, but as a father. Many parents of SOU students are understandably upset and concerned about the safety of their children, and I want them to know that everyone’s safety is my number one priority.
Students and staff: if you are feeling distressed and need additional support, let us know so that we can connect you to the right resources and help you.
Again, we have no reason to believe that there is any sort of threat to our campus. We want you to know that SOU’s Campus Public Safety and Crisis Management Team are on alert and monitoring the situation closely in conjunction with local law enforcement.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences remain with the victims and their families, as well as our colleagues, during this terrible time.
Sincerely,
Roy
