SOU Softball Closes Tucson Invitational with 3-0 Saturday Mark

The Southern Oregon softball team closed out its weekend at the Tucson Invitational with a 3-0 mark on Saturday, defeating Calumet College of St. Joseph 9-1 in the first game, beating Trinity International 10-1 in the afternoon and knocking off Aquinas 7-2 in the finale.

Southern Oregon improves to 10-6 overall this season and will now have a week off to prepare for the start of Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Box scores were not made available by the tournament hosts. The Raiders will return to action March 16, when they will travel to Portland for a CCC-opening doubleheader against Concordia.

Southern Oregon 9, Calumet College of St. Joseph’s 1

Jordyn Kurtz limited Calumet College of St. Joseph to one run and the Raiders scored three times in the first inning and finished with nine total runs in the victory.

Melissa Corn finished with four hits, including a pair of home runs and a double, to lead SOU. She posted 11 total bases in the contest. Katie Moy and Irene Barrantes each added a pair of hits in the win.

Southern Oregon 10, Trinity International 1

The Raiders scored in every inning and finished with 10 runs on 15 hits, while limiting Trinity International to one run on four hits in a six-inning victory.

Karlie Stephens pitched the complete game to earn the victory for the Raiders, striking out six with no walks. Four Raiders finished with multiple hits in the game, led by Moy’s 4-for-4 outing. Barrantes, Stephanie Vandenbusch and Sierra Anderson each tallied a pair of hits. Three SOU players drove in multiple runs, including Anderson, who hit a home run in the win.

Southern Oregon 7, Aquinas 2

Southern Oregon closed out the tournament with its third strong performance of the day, scoring seven runs on offense while limiting its third consecutive opponent to two runs or fewer.

Moy continued her hot hitting with a three-run home run in the first, and Corn added her third home run of the day in the fourth inning.
