Softball Sweeps Double-Header

After taking an early lead in the first inning of both games, Southern Oregon swept Northwest Christian 3-2 and 6-2 in Friday’s Cascade Collegiate Conference doubleheader at University Field.

Game One

Senior pitcher Jordyn Kurtz held the Beacons to two runs off of five hits with nine strikeouts to earn the complete-game win for the Raiders. Kurtz also finished with two hits along with sophomore catcher Julia Willison.

Junior shortstop Alyssa Miller opened up the bottom of the first inning with a single and a stolen base to put her on second. She was driven home by an opposite field homerun by senior Katie Moy to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.

Northwest Christian fought back to tie the game in the fifth inning with two runs off of
four hits.

The Raiders scored their game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Junior outfielder Sarah Silbowitz came in to pinch run for Moy after a walk and was moved to second off of a single by Kutz. Silbowitz came in to score the run off a single down the left field line by Willison to win 3-2.

Game Two

Southern Oregon started out early scoring three runs in the first inning of the second game. Sophomore Ashley Lowe walked and was brought home after a two-run homer by Kurtz to take the lead. Willison followed with a solo shot to left field.

Sophomore pitcher Karlie Stephens recorded the win for Southern Oregon, giving up two runs on nine hits in seven innings.

The Raiders added another run in the third making it 4-0 after Alyssa Miller singled, then stole second and scored off a double hit my senior Katie Moy.

SOU scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Anderson singled to lead off the fourth and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Melissa Corn. A single by Stephens brought in the run to make it 5-0 SOU.

Lowe led off the fifth inning reaching base on an error by Northwest Christian. She advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a single up the middle by Kurtz.

Northwest Christian scored its first run in the top of the sixth and added one more in the seventh. Addy Hoskins lead off the sixth inning with a single up the middle and scored on a single up the middle by Brooke Davis. In the seventh, Chelsea Hannon doubled to left center and scored on a single to left field by Jazzmyne Villaruel.
