UN Week encourages students to think globally

This week has students thinking globally for UN week. A series of events, hosted by the United Nations Alliance Club of Southern Oregon University, will take place in the Rogue River Room of the Stevenson Union. These events will lead up to a potluck on Wednesday, Oct. 24, commemorating the creation of the United Nations in 1947.

The next event will take place tonight, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. UNA Club will host the film “Taboo” addressing the repression of minorities like the Baha’i faith in Iran. The film will be followed by a discussion.

The major event will be Sunday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. with a screening of the documentary “Education Under Fire.” The documentary continues the look at Baha’i persecution, focusing on their struggle for higher education in Iran. Members of the local Baha’i community will discuss the current situation in Iran in a panel moderated by Dr. David Young, member of the National Spiritual Assembly of Baha’is of the United States.

All events are free and open to the public. For more information contact Kathleen Gamer at gamer.kathleen@gmail.com or Evan Lasley at anuminus@gmail.com.
