There have been many new and exciting additions and features to the Southern Oregon University campus this year; including the new and improved Raider Band. Featured at SOU’s first home football game October 5th, the new band was not only sporting a new, refreshed attitude; but also a new look, equipment, and fight song.

Composed of three key-tars, electric drums, and a six person horn section, the new Raider Band doesn’t just lead school cheers, they play popular top hits, oldie numbers, and jazz pieces as well. “The new band is a cool new twist on the ol’ pep band concept,” stated Director of Athletics Matt Sayre. “More jazz, more distinct.” The band is currently “open to all students who enjoy performing music to promote school spirit,” and is led by band director Tyler Willoughby.
