Are you a college student tired of eating in the cafeteria? Or spending lots of money eating out all the time? If you are eating for one, you don’t need a stove or oven. Just use a mug and a microwave. By doing this you can make breakfast lunch and dinner each under 20 minutes without leaving your room.

You’re probably wondering why you would want to cook food in a mug that you drink out of. For starters, it makes cleaning up easy. You are only dirtying one dish to make and eat your food. You can cook your food fast and there is no need to waste food because it only makes enough for one serving.

For breakfast you can make oatmeal. Just add a half cup of quick cooking oats to a mug, then fill the mug with water so it covers the oats. Now put it in the microwave for two minutes. If you want sugar or fruit you can add it after the oatmeal is cooked. Eat out of your mug for easy clean up and enjoy!

Another recipe that uses a mug is homemade macaroni and cheese. Who doesn’t love macaroni? I know I do. To start you will need:

1/3 cup elbow macaroni (or any kind of pasta you want)

1/3 + ¼ cups water

1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any kind of cheese you like)

2 tsp milk

Start by putting the pasta and water in a mug. Put it in the microwave for six minutes. Stop and stir it at four minutes so that the pasta cooks evenly. Now add the cheese and put it back in the microwave for 45 seconds or until the cheese is melted. Add the milk and stir to combine it all. You could make this in a mug with a lid and eat it on the way to class if you are limited on time between classes.

For dinner you can make tuna casserole. To make this you will need:

½ cup rice (you can also use pasta instead)

1/3 cup cream of mushroom soup

½ can of tuna

Bread crumbs or crushed crackers

To begin, put rice in a mug and cover with water. Cover the mug with plastic wrap or a lid and place it in a microwave for nine minutes. After the rice is cooked add the tuna, cream of mushroom soup, and bread crumbs or crackers. Then place it back in the microwave for 30 seconds to heat it all up. Stir it together and enjoy! If you don’t like tuna you can use canned chicken, tofu or any other protein you like.

For those who like their dessert, you can make s’mores in a mug. Break two graham crackers into small chunks and put in the bottom of a mug. Next add one regular sized marshmallow and four squares of a chocolate bar. Repeat the layers again and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds or until the chocolate is melted.

Happy Cooking!
