The Southern Oregon men’s track and field team has been named Cascade Collegiate Conference Adidas Team of the Week, the conference office announced.
Southern Oregon traveled to the Bay Area over the weekend to compete in Friday’s San Francisco State Distance Carnival. The Raiders claimed a pair of individual event titles, one meet record, five NAIA national qualifying marks and 12 CCC qualifying marks.
Eric Avila and Zach Boyd-Helm led the way for SOU as each hit the NAIA ‘A’ standard qualifier and finished first in his event. Avila won the 5000-meter run in meet-record fashion, finishing the race in 14:03.14 to post the second-best time in the NAIA this season. Boyd-Helm’s time of 1:51.16 in the 800 is the best in the NAIA so far this season.
Kevin Jorgensen placed third in the 1500, tallying a time of 3:52.11. His time is the third-best in the NAIA this season and automatically qualifies him for the NAIA national meet. Jared Hixon hit the ‘B’ mark in the men’s 5000 with a time of 14:50.67, and Hector Aleman hit the ‘B’ mark in the 10,000 with a time of 31:06.25.
The Raiders return to action April 6, when they will travel to Klamath Falls for the 2013 Border Duel.
