Flu Shot Season at SOU

With the peak flu season beginning in October, the Student Health and Wellness Center hosted a free flu shot event in the Stevenson Union on Oct. 17. Around 100 students attended the event until the SHWC ran out of vaccines.

College students are exposed to a variety of risk factors that may increase the chances of getting the flu. Anna D’Amato, Executive Director of the Student Health and Wellness Center, recognized the importance of a flu shot and self-care in diminishing the risk of getting the flu.

If a student does begin experiencing common symptoms of the flu, such as headaches or dry or sore throat, they are recommended to contact the SHWC for treatment and email professors as soon as possible.

Students who missed this opportunity still have an opportunity to avoid the virus. The SHWC is organizing another free flu shot event in November.

If desired before then, SOU students can get a flu shot at the SHWC for $22 charged to their student account. Students must call (541) 552-6136 to make an appointment.

The SHWC is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays.
